Today, Thursday, 3rd December 2020 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
UNESCO began marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a week-long program from 25 November and ends today, 3 December 2020 under the theme: “Building back better: towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world by, for and with persons with disabilities”. UNESCO will also organize a Global Awareness Raising Campaign “Tell our stories, enable our rights” on its official social media channels, focusing on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people living with disabilities and on the immediate response to the crisis through open, inclusive and innovative use of digital solutions, tools and resources.
President Akufo-Addo led administration for the past four years supported 850 women entrepreneurs with disability, who have been given funding of GH¢ 2 million to scale up their businesses and
Also, 1000 male entrepreneurs with disability are being given funding of GH¢2 million to scale up their businesses.
Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies have also been supporting Persons with Disabilities with financial support for Business, Equipment, and machines to do Business.
The National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP) is a flagship policy initiative of the Government of Ghana.
Its primary objective is to provide integrated national support for start-ups and small businesses.
NEIP primarily focuses on providing business development services; startup incubators and funding for young businesses to enable them to grow and become successful.
The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) is therefore set within the context of Ghana’s long-term strategic vision of consolidating its middle-income status, building an industry-driven economy capable of providing decent jobs that are suitable and sustainable for development.
The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3.
It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
