The Suhum Area of The Church of Pentecost in the Eastern Region has provided educational scholarships to 65 tertiary students worth GH¢118,361 for the 2020/2021 academic year.
The package which covered the payment of academic fees, facility user fees, and SRC dues benefitted both fresh and continuing students who are brilliant but needy.
The Area Head, Apostle Anthony Eghan Kwesi Ekuban explained that the Church of Pentecost believes that education is key to development and ending the quagmire of poverty in families.
He said there are many brilliant students in the area struggling to continue their education due to poverty hence the intervention by the Church.
He further indicated that the church is committed to playing its role in nation-building and one of the strategies is to support brilliant but needy students to realize their aspirations of pursuing higher education. “Poverty should not be a barrier to acquiring the right education and skills development for sustainable livelihood,” he stressed.
Since the launch of the scholarship scheme in 2016, the Suhum Area of the church has assisted students and apprentices with financial support worth GH¢ 307,129.34 to attain academic laurels and vocational skills.
The Scholarship scheme has been hailed by members of the Church in the area due to the significant impact it is having in changing the narratives in families.
