The Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has banned lying in the repose of corpses for public viewing and last respect.
Bereaved families have been directed to move their dead bodies straight from mortuaries to the cemetery for private burial with persons not more than 25 in attendance, and must spend no more than 2 hours for the burial service.
A statement issued by the Municipal Coordinating Director Mrs. Ruth Woode on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive Friday further stated that one-week observation must not be attended by more than 25 mourners and must not exceed two hours.
The Municipal Assembly has meanwhile banned funeral services indefinitely.
The decision by the Municipal Assembly is to reinforce restrictions by the government in containing the spread of the second wave of coronavirus which is more deadly claiming more lives.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that many bereaved families in Abuakwa North Municipality had already scheduled burial and funeral ceremonies of the beloved before coming into force of the new restriction order by the President therefore the directive may be flouted.
However, the police and other stakeholders will be patrolling the Municipality Saturday and Sunday to ensure strict compliance.
Eastern Region Currently has 174 and has recorded 9 deaths since January 2021.
