The Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Mr. Kyeremeh Atuahene has urged Ghanaians especially the youth to protect themselves with a condom during sexual intercourse while adhering to the COVID- 19 safety protocols during and after Valentine.
He said the two protective mechanisms cannot be decoupled during this Valentine’s Day.
According to Mr. Atuahene, 20,000 Ghanaians were infected with HIV in 2020 out of which 28% were youth.
The commission, therefore, advised sexually active citizens who could not abstain from having sexual affairs to always protect themselves especially in this season of love.
Mr. Kyeremeh frankly stated that taking antiretroviral drugs is not a pleasant situation in which no one wishes it to be part of his/her life, however, appealed to persons living with HIV to take their antiretroviral drugs to protect themselves and adhere to COVID 19 safety protocols anywhere they find themselves.
