The Parish Priest of the Saint Mary Catholic Church in the Diocese of Koforidua, Reverend Father Paul K. Tordzro has called on the Youth to consider Friendship first and avoid sexual activities in the Friendship before getting married.
He noted that Friendship can develop commitment, passion, and intimacy but engaging in early sex can end the relationship before marriage because some of the men become feed up.
Speaking on the age of consent to the sex of 16 years and the legal age for marriage in Ghana, which is 18 years which is enshrined in the 1998 Children’s Act and the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 30), Reverend Father Paul K. Tordzro, who doubles as a Marriage counselor said the absence of premarital, Marriage and post-marriage counseling are some of the causes of many divorces in Ghana.
According to him, most Ghanaians get married with few days of counseling without getting the necessary tips while others fail to be counseled before, during, and after marriage.
The priest also noted that the mentality in marriage has changed this day, compared to the olden days, and blame some of the marriage counselors for failing to have enough time for counseling because of pressure from people getting married, adding from his experience that it is one of the major issues for divorce.
On the issue of getting married in 18 years, Father Tordzro said age does not matter, but one must attain the age of reasoning without an order from elsewhere and have knowledge about marriage and said if it is not about Education but on moral grounds, then age for marriage must be moved forward.
He called on Ghanaians to continue to pray for people getting married and those who are already married for a successful marriage and noted that will produce professionals for the Country.
