The Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has stated that he has no wife by the name Ramatu as being peddled around.
The name Ramatu popped up in the public domain for the first time on January 7, 2021, during the swearing-in ceremony of President Akufo Addo when the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin introduced the name Ramatu as the Second lady instead of the well-known wife – Samira Bawumia. Even though the speaker later corrected the error, he explained that Ramatu was exactly what was written for him to read.
Since then, rumor has festered that Ramatu is the first wife of Vice President Bawumia but has been hidden for an unknown reason instead Samira Bawumia has been used to outshine her the alleged first wife of Vice President.
While introducing the Second lady during the state of the Nation Address in Parliament recently, the minority group in the house chanted “we want Ramatu” suggesting that the alleged first wife of the Vice President should be rather introduced as the second lady.
A statement issued Friday, March 12, 2021, by Gideon Boako, Ph.D the spokesperson to the Vice President urged the public to ignore the fabricate Ramatu Story.
Below is the full Statement
IGNORE FABRICATED RAMATU STORY.
The attention of the office of the Vice-President has been drawn to stories and pictures circulating of a woman supposedly named “Ramatu” who is being claimed as a wife of the Vice-President.
The office of the Vice-President wishes to inform the general public that the Vice-President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has never met or seen this purported Ramatu let alone take her as a wife. She is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice-President for their purposes.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-President has only one wife, his dear Samira Bawumia and they have been married for 17 years even though his religion permits him to marry up to four wives.
We ask the public to ignore the propaganda and deliberate falsehood.

Gideon Boako, Ph.D
Spokesperson to the Vice President
