Report from some major Government Health Facilities in West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region in 2020 indicated that Out-Patients Department Attendance dropped due to the Pandemic COVID-19 which arrived in Ghana in March 2020.
The Asamankese Government Hospital which is the main referral center for all Health Centers and Community Health Planning Services recorded 54,029 Out-Patients Department Attendance in 2020 against 59,426 in 2019.
Out of the number, 25,940 were new attendance and 26,488 were re-attendance and a total of 48,448 went to the Hospital with National Health Insurance card, representing 90% of which noninsured patients were 5,541.
The Asamankese Health Center, which is the second biggest Government Facility in the Municipality, also recorded 21,168 Out-Patients Department Attendance in 2020, compared to 23,412 in 2019.
The total number of patients with National Health Insurance card who went to the facility was 20,216 and 962 were non-insured.
The municipal Health Directorate 2020 performance review report indicated that the Sabon Zongo zone which has three CHPS compounds it also recorded 9,652 Out-Patients Department Attendance in 2020, against 11,769 in 2019.
Patients with National Health Insurance card remain high in the Sabon Zongo zone with 9,119 people and 551 non-insured.
