The Eastern Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Markwai has said the operation dubbed “operation produce your driver’s license” issued by Ashanti regional motor traffic and transport department (MTTD) is going to reduce frequent road accident in the country.
According to him, the initiative will go a long way to help reduce the rampant road accidents in the country.
He said the majority of drivers are driving without driving license, hence the need to embark on such operation.
“A lot of drivers are not cautioned about how to use the road and sometimes they are in a hurry to make their money and this is something that results in road accidents” he said.
He added that DVLA has collaborated with Road safety commission and the Police service to educate the drivers in the eastern region to reduce road accidents.
Again, he said even though there are no road signs on some of the major roads in the country but drivers should be vigilant when driving.
Mr. Markwai said road safety commission has put measures to ensure that those who can read road signs and have a fair knowledge of issues such as insurance, safe driving, and functions of the vital parts of the vehicle are authorized to drive.
In furtherance, he said, before they issued a license for a driver, the person needs to go through a computer-based theoretical examination on many aspects of safe driving.
He indicated that a driver who failed to take examinations in DVLA especially physical examination, eye test, to make sure the person did not have any deformity will not have the necessary skills.
