Professor Francis Nunoo, Head of the Department of Marines and Fisheries Sciences at the University of Ghana has sent a strong warning to Ghanaians over the intake of salted fish which in the local parlance referred to as ‘momoni’.
According to Prof Nunoo, pieces of reliable information available to them indicates that some people have decided to sell some of the washed ashore fishes in the markets and for that matter, Ghanaians should be very careful as it can possess strong health risks on an individual.
“I believe that they are simple enough for the ordinary man to follow. Let’s follow these little protocols and also let’s be on the look for foul smell on fishes. Then we should be fine.
“We have information that, some people, when the waves of sea comes, some of the fish appear back onto the surface of the shore’
Prof. Nunoo observed, “some people are picking up some of the fermented fish that have been exposed to vultures and animals after sea levels have resurfaced on the shore after their buried state.”
