The Deputy Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Ghana National fire service Mr. Daniel Tetteh, Station Officer One has advised residents in Koforidua to change their attitude towards fire safety issues to reduce the incidence of fire outbreak.
Due to ignorance and negligence of human behavior, fire incidents have become a regular occurrence with thousands of lives and properties are lost every year.
“Fire outbreak always results in property damage, single home, skin scaly, causing hundreds of death and among others” he added.
This came to light when Bryt FM reporter, Abba Kwegyirba Aggrey, in one on one interview with him, he averred that when oxygen, heat, and fuel which classified as “the triangle of fire” comes together, it leads to fire outbreaks which he describes the fuel as combustible materials such as clothing, paper, rubber, wood, human body, and many more.
“The most common causes of fire outbreaks are improper handling of fire, unstable electricity, naked frames, faulty wiring system, illegal connections, gas leakage, improper use of electrical appliances, etc”, he revealed.
In furtherance, he cautioned Consumers not to replace fuses or circuit breakers for direct connections with wires and should not overload electrical outlets with multiple devices connected at the same time since the wires can become hot and can cause fire accidents.
“One should not leave an electrical iron on while doing something else also individuals should avoid placing lamps, candles, heaters near curtains. Other combustible materials including television and microwave oven should not be located near any clothing materials.
When lighting a stove oven, strike the match first before opening the gas and again one should avoid using plastic bags or towels in the kitchen.
Mr. Tetteh cautioned Palm wine tappers, smokers, farmers, companies, industries, drivers to be careful about fire usage as we are in Harmattan season.
He, therefore, urged residents to get fire extinguishers in various houses in order to prevent unexpected fire outbreak in their domicile homes.
