The Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Union, Paa Willie has stated that they are not content with a reduction in fuel prices by the government.
The country has been alarmed since fuel prices were increased and concerned drivers threatened to increase transportation fees which will affect both drivers and passengers.
The several complaints from Ghanaians have been adhered to and the National Petroleum Authority reduced the 17 pesewas per litre increase in fuel to 9 pesewas per litre effective from Wednesday 5th May 2021.
However, speaking in an interview with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee on Dadi FM, 101.1, Paa Willie said that the 9 pesewas per litre are not enough for them to reconsider their decision to increase fares.
According to him, the government can do better because fuel prices have been increased too many times this year and this reduction cannot make up for it.
“The fuel prices have been increased too many times this year and we have already made our decision to increase the transportation fares”, he said.
He added that the government might increase the prices again after few months and their decision to increase the fare by 15% will still take effect so that when it happens they can be safe.
“if we do not increase the fares as planned initially by 15%, the government will later increase the fares in the next few months and we will be greatly affected”, he added.
