Nurses in Ghana join others in the continent to observe International Nurses Day today, Wednesday 12th May 2021 which is annually commemorated to assess the contributions that nurses make to society.
The theme for the 2021 resource is Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare.
It also marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who founded modern Nursing. This year’s day is themed “Nursing, the World to health” which synchronizes with the current Coronavirus pandemic the world is faced with.
It also brings to light, the importance of Nurses in addressing a wide range of health challenges.
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association will launch the 2021 International Nurses Day today at the national secretariat situated at Gulf House, Shiashie in Accra under the theme “Nurses and Midwives: A Voice to lead in the vision for a Transformed Health Care in a Post COVID-19 world”.
Ghana Registered Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA), formerly Ghana Registered Nurses’ Association (GRNA) is a Professional Association for all categories of Nurses in Ghana.
The Association was founded in March 1960 as a result of a merger of two professional nursing Associations the Qualified Nurses Association headed by Mr. Mettle-Nunoo and the State Registered Nurses Association led by Dr. Docial Kisseih with the mission to provide a central organization that would advance the interest of the nursing profession in Ghana and internationally.
The purpose of the merger was the need for Ghana to present on Nursing/Midwifery Association to represent the country at the International Council of Nurses. As a result of the merger, Dr. Docia Kisseih became the first president and Mr. Mettle Nunoo became the first general secretary.
It is a Professional Association independent and non-partisan. The GRNMA is the exclusive mouthpiece for all nurses in matters affecting them.
