National President for small-scale miners, Kojo Preprah has expressed his disappointment in the government for allowing soldiers to burn excavators of both legal and illegal miners.
According to him, he is not in support of this act because there are licensed small-scale miners who have the right to mine hence this act is an injustice to these legal miners.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee on Dadi FM, he added that this act is targeted at a certain group of people and that makes him believe that the government has connived with these soldiers to bring people down.
“I want to ask if we are really fighting galamsey or we are just in for the downfall of some people because there are legal small scale miners in the system so if you burn an excavator without asking or investigating then this is a plot to destroy the businesses of certain people”, he said.
He said that the machines burnt can be used to undertake developmental projects in the country so it doesn’t make sense that they are wasting all this money and properties then after burning these excavators, the government will go for a loan to buy the same excavators.
“What makes this issue senseless is the fact that after burning these excavators the same government will go for a loan and buy the same machine so why can’t they just find alternatives to using these machines in helping the country”, he suggested.
He suggested that the government should devise other means of curbing galamsey in the country because this method will not result in anything.
