There was drama in Koforidua Circuit Court ‘B’ on Friday when a taxi driver at Koforidua- Ada put before a court told the presiding Judge that, he is guilty, that, “he cannot change his mouth”.
This was when the accused Osei Joshua, 25, pleaded guilty to charges of escaping from lawful custody and stealing.
The Judge, Her Honour Mercy Adei Kotei explained to the accused that, he could be jailed for a maximum of five years for the offense so does he still stand by his plea of guilty?.
The accused caused laughter by responding that “My Lord, truth is one, I can’t change my mouth. Indeed I ole the items and I also escaped from the police Custody. I stole the items because I was hungry”
On May 28, 2021, Osei Joshua, broke into the house of his co-tenant, Patricia Debrah, and stole a 32 inches flat TV set with its remote control and television wall mount, clothes, electric iron, Samsung Galaxy tablet, a pen drive, all amounting to Ghc4,930.
A former report was lodged at the Central Police station in Koforidua.
The investigation led to the arrest of the convict after interrogation which he admitted the offense, adding, the items were kept in a bush close to the house.
The investigator Sergeant Abraham Asamoah accompanied the convict to the scene but while climbing a mountain behind the house Sergeant Asamoah slipped and fell, the convict struggled out of the handcuff and one side was removed and took to his heels.
On June 1, 2021, the convict was arrested at a village in the Obuor Tabiri Mountains.
He was charged with escaping from lawful custody, causing damage, unlawful entry, and stealing which he pleaded guilty to all hence sentenced to a total of five years imprisonment on his plea of guilty.
