President Nana Akufo-Addo’s cabinet has approved the establishment of the Ghana Hydrological Authority, according to Minister for Works and Housing, Honourable Francis Asenso-Boakye.
The Authority, It mandate will, among other things include the development of a comprehensive drainage master plan to mitigate the effects of flooding and the protection of Ghana’s coastlines.
It is expected that the establishment of this Authority will also provide the needed avenue to plan, mobilize private sector financing, oversee, monitor, and stem the improper control of drainage systems across the country.
The Minister said the provision of accurate Hydrological data and information for flood early warning is critical to the ministry’s flood management.
