A total of 48 students in Accra and the Eastern Region are receiving treatment after they were tested positive for pandemic COVID-19.
Out of the number,46 were recorded in one school in Accra and the other two are in two schools in the Eastern Region, according to Director General of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye.
The director said Donkorkrom Agriculture Senior High School and Saint Dominic Catholic Junior High School in the Eastern Region has one each case while Achimota School has 46 active cases.
He said since schools were reopened, 351 have recorded positive cases of COVID-19 with a cumulative total of 2,217 at which 96.8% have recovered.
So far, the Volta region has recorded the highest number of cases, which is 512, and the North East region has not recorded any COVID-19 case since schools were reopened.
Giving the breakdown of Schools which recorded case, Dr. Aboagye said 7 were in Ahafo, 57 in Ashanti, 43 in Bono,22 in Bono East, 16 in Central, 28 in Eastern, 50 in Accra and 4 in North East region.
In the situation at Achimota, Dr. Kuma Aboagye said between 14th and 16th June 2021, three students presented to the School sickbay with influenza-like symptoms, and all three were investigated for COVID-19 in line with laid down protocols.
He said all the three were tested positive, prompting the activation of the public health emergency rapid response team of the Greater Accra region and the Okaikwei North Municipal of the Ghana Health Service.
Dr. Kuma Aboagye said all the three students were isolated following the existing protocols and the symptomatic students and contacts were identified, listed, and also tested for COVID-19, and all contacts placed in mandatory quarantine on campus.
