Some pupils of Ayeboafo D/A Basic School in Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region sit on the floor to learn due to inadequate desks.
The situation is affecting teaching and learning as well as the health of the pupils as some often complains of pains in the spinal region.
Apart from this, the handwriting of the pupils is greatly affected.
There are also inadequate tables and chairs for the teachers. Teachers in the school decried that it is affecting marking of homework and class exercise.
The poor learning environment and its associated furniture challenges have resulted in several pupils dropping out of school.
“Because of the condition, some pupils have dropped out of school and are now helping their parents on their farms, other parents who can afford have also withdrawn their wards to better endowed private school where the environment is conducive for learning” Nana Ebenezer Lartey, Youth Chief in the community said.
The Headteacher of the school declined to comment on the matter.
The Community is appealing to NGOs to come to the aid of the school.
