The Circuit Court in Asamankese of the Eastern Region has sentenced a 51-year-old electrician, Ofosu George to 12 months imprisonment in hard labor for defrauding by pretense, contrary to section 131 of the criminal offense Act 1960(Act 29).
Ofosu George, the accused pleaded guilty to two counts and was sentenced to one month imprisonment for count one and 12 months for count two, all to run concurrently.
According to the prosecution statement presented in the court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams, during June 2021 at Akroso, the accused with intent to defraud did obtain the consent of one Victoria Tawiah Nartey to part with cash of ¢360.00 using certain pretense to wit; by falsely pretending that if the above amount is giving, the accused could secure an electricity meter to the complainant.
Also in June 2021, the accused went to Aprokumasi and took another ¢1,400.00 from one Nartey Isaac and promised him to give him employment at the Electricity Company of Ghana and proved futile.
The accused after taking the money from the two complainants could not supply the Electricity meter and job at ECG and on 13th July 2021 a report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested and sent to court for prosecution.
