The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has lauded the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Joy Daddy Multimedia and Housa Tours to promote domestic tourism in the Eastern Region.
Speaking during the media launch and signing of the MOU between the media giant and Housa Tours in Koforidua on Tuesday, the Eastern Regional Manager of Ghana Tourism Authority Frederick Adjei- Rudolph commended Joy Daddy Multimedia for committing its platform to promote domestic tourism.
He noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the tourism industry, therefore, lauded the partnership agreement stating that it would help boost domestic tourism.
“The tourism industry became one of the most affected sectors in the whole wild world from the onset of the pandemic. As we all know most countries closed their borders including Ghana, hence all international arrivals were halted. This has caused the industry to experience a drastic loss in revenue. For instance, International Arrivals dropped by close to 70% in the year 2020. If this has not taught anything at all as an industry, it has taught us to look within. Hence, this has caused the industry to strongly focus on domestic tourism to help revive tourism activities”
He said, as a result, the Tourism Industry is directing its resources into making ordinary Ghanaians develop an interest in patronizing tourism.
“The focus is to promote domestic and regional tourism at the moment. The President in this regard launched the Domestic and Regional Tourism Campaign on June 1, 2021, to stimulate the industry, themed “Experience Ghana, Share Ghana”. The campaign seeks to increase domestic arrivals to 600,000 by 2022 and 1,000,000 by the end of 2024. An ambitious target but very achievable with the right approach and mindset”
Frederick Adjei- Rudolph stressed that the objectives of the campaign and this ambitious target cannot be achieved without collaborating with stakeholders especially the private sector which is one of the major drivers of our Tourism Industry, adding that, Ghana Tourism Authority, Koforidua is therefore pleased and humbled to collaborate with Hausa Tours and Joy Daddy Multimedia ” for spending your resources to planning and developing such an innovative solution to improve domestic tourism in the Eastern Region and also to ensure that this campaign works”.
“It is worthy to note that liaising/partnering with one of the giant media houses (Bright FM) in the locality is laudable because it would serve as a channel through which Domestic Tourism Messages and Campaigns would be communicated to our target markets. This I believe would create massive publicity for our mutual benefit and a successful campaign”.
Nonetheless, he advised that the parties not lose focus on the consumer while concentrating on improving our domestic tourism by projecting Eastern Region as the most exciting and preferred destination in Ghana.
“We should acknowledge that Tourism consumers as I speak, are more important to the recovery of the industry and have become more demanding post-pandemic. Therefore, it behooves industry players like Hausa tours to offer consumers value for money by providing very satisfactory services to have them for repeat visits. I believe together we can influence Ghanaians to embrace, promote and Execute this Domestic Campaign successfully in the Eastern Region and Ghana as a whole.”
