Sub-chiefs in New Juaben Traditional Council were on Friday July 30, 2021 forced to invoke a curse on themselves by Omanhene Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng over Ghc2000 bribe allegation.
Before the commencement of the traditional council meeting, the Omanhene raised serious concern about the allegation that he took Ghc2000 plus two schnapps bribe from the bereaved family of the late Chief of Suhyen and the Suhyen traditional council before accepting their official announcement of his passing.
The visibly upset Daasebre Oti Boateng accused some of the sub-chiefs of spreading the baseless allegation to tarnish his image.
He clashed with the Chief of Suhyen Okoawia Dwumoh Baabu II when he said the statement by the Omanhene was hearsay that he has not been able to point out the person he claims to spread the falsehood.
All the sub-chiefs were forced to drink from “Abonsam Buoso “which traditionally symbolizes a curse and bad omen to befall anyone guilty.
The Krontihene of New Juaben Barfuor Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng said the action by the Omanhene was shameful and disrespectful to the sub-chiefs.
“Forcing Nananom present at today’s Traditional Council meeting to drink in turns portions of schnapps which was offered in libation on the “Abonsam Buoso” is a primitive method of determining Nananom’s guilt or innocence of divulging information,” He said.
Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng added that “By so doing Nananom were subjected to dangerous or painful tests believed to be under divine control, so that those who would refuse to drink would then be pronounced guilty of passing information to Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng, Kontihene of New Juaben. This is a criminal practice in the laws of Ghana. Unfortunately, I am told, all Nananom present allowed themselves to be treated in this inhumane manner. What a shame!!! Oh NJTC”.
