The area manager for Eastern, Volta, and Oti Region of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr. Joseph Asare has stated emphatically that the introduction of the Ghana Card to replace Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) has increased the number of Taxpayers.
He said, after the introduction of the Ghana card Personal Identification Number, potential taxpayers have been recognized by the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Mr. Joseph Asare made this assertion on Tuesday, 31st August 2021 at Koforidua when Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition in collaboration with Ghana Revenue Authority and other corporate entities met to deliberate on the need for companies to pay their taxes and why they fail to do so.
He added that it is important for taxpayers to honestly honor their tax obligations because it forms a major component of the nation’s internally generated fund which is a critical source of government’s funding for socio-economic development.
Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, the Physical Policy Specialist of Oxfam Ghana added that Ghana is going through a lot of challenges, the country mostly relies on IMF, foreign donors, and others, hence the need to generate something internally to develop the country.
He appealed to Ghanaians to pay the right amount of taxes to develop the country.
