The Head of Legal at Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Chief Superintendent Adolf Aboagye-Asenso has said that GIS will spare no effort in arresting foreigners with Ghana passports in the country.
He affirmed that GIS has waged a war against foreigners who attempt to acquire Ghanaian passports through suspicious means.
Mr. Asenso Aboagye indicated that fifty-two (52) foreign nationals who attempted to acquire Ghanaian Passport by false declaration were repatriated.
“The aliens acquired genuine source documents such as the birth certificates from the Births and Deaths Registry, Ghana Cards from the National Identification Authority and voter ID cards from the Electoral Commission with the assistance of their local collaborators,’’ he said.
Mr. Asenso Aboagye stated in an interview that the source of the documents was presented to the Immigration Service as evidence of citizenship for the acquisition of Ghanaian passports.
Meanwhile, GIS has prosecuted 35 foreign nationals who were subsequently fined a total of GHC91, 360.00. Those prosecuted include eight Ghanaians, seventeen Nigerians, one South Africans, one Congolese, one Togolese, four Beninese, one Cameroonians, one Sierra Leoneans, and two Ivoirians.
