The Ghana Mine Workers Union branch at Awaso Bauxite Company has expressed fear over the impact of the withdrawal of the investor from Ghana Bauxite Company on general operations and employees compensation entitlements.
This comes after the investor Bosai Minerals Group from China, served the government notice to existing Ghana due to the non-renewal of its mining lease which expires in January 2022.
The development has created some apprehension among workers of the firm in the Western North Region.
On Thursday, September 9, 2021, the workers held a mini demonstration to express their grievances and called on the government to intervene so that the state protects their interest by securing their severance package.
Mr. Charles Jona Boah Chuchu branch chairman, told Kwame Kontor Boateng, Lord FM reporter that, the government must initiate steps in addressing the situation amicably to order Bosai to honor its obligation since their condition of service cannot be lost.
Mr. Richard Ayehu, branch secretary of Mine Workers Union, stated that Bosai has majority shareholders “so why won’t the government initiatives for us, and will be a stand since the time for exploration has been delayed due to GIADEC inability to start operations”.
He said, they are fighting for their right and any company that breaks has a redundancy package and does not see the reason why things are not moving on their side.
