There was drama in Koforidua when Assembly Members sympathetic to the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, openly showed “Yes Votes” cast for the Municipal Chief Executive nominee for New Juaben South Municipal Assembly.
Before the election, there was uncertainty following threats by some Assembly members to vote against the nominee.
Assembly members affiliated to the NDC side shockingly showed their “Yes” votes openly to a former Eastern Regional chairman Bismark Tawiah Boateng who was present at the venue in clear violation of secret balloting.
Mr. Isaac Appaw Gyasi polled 46 out of 47 votes representing 98%.
The election held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, was supervised by Electoral Commission led by the Regional Director Madam Faith Amedzake.
Ike Appaw Gyasi who had the nod to serve for second term subject to removal by the President assured that he is going to spearhead massive development in the Municipality.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong called for unity and support for the MCE to enable him to execute his mandate.
Present at the confirmation was the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry Michael Kofi Baafi, Chief Director of Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Samuel Donkor, Traditional Authorities, some regional and constituency executives New Patriotic Party, and a former Eastern regional Chairman of Opposition NDC Mr. Tawiah Boateng.
So far, nominees for Birim South Okere District, Akyemansa, and New Juaben South have been confirmed while that of Achiase District has been rejected.
Today is the second day of the confirmation exercise being spearheaded by Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong.
