MCE for Akuapem South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Frank Aidoo has warned residents of Akuapem concerning renting motorcycles to persons under age and unqualified people to use them for any purpose.
Okada usage and its brouhaha have been a great topic of interest in the country since it has grown to become one of the leading means of transportation.
The people of Akuapem are not an exception as their MCE has added his voice on how the usage of Okada has contributed to deaths and accidents in the municipality.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM, he confided that there are several alarming accidents in the municipality due to the use of Okada as a means of transportation.
In an attempt to curb it, he used the interview as a medium to caution the residents that drastic measures will be out in place to ensure that unqualified and under-aged people do not use Okada in the community.
“Because of the Okada in the municipality, there has been an increase in accidents which is very alarming. Most of these Okada riders lend their motors to children or people who are unqualified to use them, which should’ve entertained”
He added that they will make sure they ensure that all Okada riders have a license and have been trained and educated on how to use the Motorcycle before they will be allowed to.
“Before we allow you to use the Okada you must show proof of license and the fact that you’ve had some training on how Okada operates, if you don’t have any of these then you won’t be allowed to use it”, he threatened.
He also advised that riders must ensure they have their helmets on all the time to decrease fatal accidents and untimely deaths.
