The Eastern Regional Hospital branch of the Health Service Workers’ Union (HSWU) has threatened to go on full strike beginning Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
The Leadership of the HSWU in Ghana has declared a nationwide strike over poor conditions of service.
According to them, they have not been treated fairly by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission in addressing their poor condition of service.
Addressing journalists in Accra, the General Secretary of the Health Services Workers’ Union, Franklin Owusu Ansah, entreated all members to take part in the strike until they receive a favorable response from the government.
“It is not the wish of the union to cause industrial disharmony and disrupt the smooth delivery of health services, but the continuous disregard by the government to respond to our simple request has pushed us to the wall and this far. Today, October 25, 2021, must be the last day our members must go to work.”
“From Tuesday, October 26, 2021, we ask you to please stay at home until you hear from your leaders. Your resumption of duty will depend on the government and its negotiations to act in good faith.”
The local Union Chairman of HSWU at the Eastern Regional Hospital, Ibrahim Fuseini told Mybrytfmonline.com that, the union will officially inform management of the hospital today about their plans to commence full strike beginning Wednesday.
He said the union will only call off the strike whenever there is a directive from the national leadership.
HSWU is a Trade Union Organization within the Health Sector in Ghana. It is registered by Law and holds a collective Bargaining Certificate (CBC) that empowers it to do negotiations and collective bargaining on behalf of its over 28,000 membership.
