The Ministry of Transport has directed the Coalition of Private Road Transport Commercial Operators Union (CPRTCOU) to present an official petition on what they demand from the Government to address it for them.
Head of Communication for the union, Mr. Abbas Ibrahim Moro, said their intended strike was called off after the Minister of Transport had an emergency meeting with the leadership of the CPRTCOU.
According to Mr. Moro, the Minister for Transport, following the engagement with the leadership of the union promised that their grievances would be addressed in the 2022 budget which is to be read on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, before Parliament.
General Secretary of Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr. Godfred Abulbire has said 2021 began with a fuel price of Ghc4.950 per liter for either diesel or petrol but as of the first week of November 2021, it was Gh¢6.90 representing about 35.04 percent cumulative increment.
Mr. Abulbire said the price per gallon of petrol or diesel had increased from GH¢22.28 in January 2021 to GH¢31.05 in November 2021, representing GH¢8.77 increments.
However, a coalition of private transport operators threatened to embark on a strike action if the government does not reduce taxes on fuel.
The group gave the government a three-day ultimatum to grant their request or face the wrath of their members.
