Residents and market women in Ahomahomasu in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern region are complaining bitterly about the many challenges they endure whenever it rain or shine due to the bad state of their market center.
According to aggrieved traders, the Assembly and the Member of Parliament have failed to complete the construction of their market after pulling down an old one which was been used.
The Assembly member for the area, Hon. Fiagbor Kwame speaking to newsmen indicated that the situation affects the activities of many traders who come to the community to buy farm produce as farmers find it difficult to even display their produce.
He accused the Assembly of failing to inform him of the project, hence does not even know when the project is going to be completed.
Some market women were, however, disappointed in the Assembly for pulling down the old structure if the project could delay to this extent.
“We are always at the mercy of the weather like rain and the sun has been our major challenge. It is sad to see traders with their babies at their back enduring the rains and heat from the sun” some traders complained.
Meanwhile, Nana Owiredu Agyarko Mintah II, Akyem Abuakwa, Fanteakwa and Begoro Ankobeahene on his part blamed the hardship of market women on the poor leadership of the Assembly, the MP, and party Executives who have failed to utilize the common fund to take care of such projects.
He emphasized the Assembly’s major internal generated fund comes from the community but has failed to make the market conducive for the same women who pay tolls to the Assembly.
“As a chief, I can’t sit down for my people to continue to suffer like this, we are going to fight to get our share of the national cake. I can see that the DCE, MP, and party Executives have failed the people of Begoro and Fanteakwa in general” the Ankobeahene added.
