Fanteakwa North Positive Action (FANPA), a development facilitating group, has expressed regret of various threats towards its leading member, Nana Owiredu Agyarko Mintah II over the past weeks.
According to a press release, the above-mentioned person who is also the Akyem Abuakwa Benkum and Fanteakwa Ankobeahene received threats after his engagement with the media concerning the development of Begoro and the district as a whole.
Nana Owiredu Agyarko II being the one frontelliering FANPA agenda of seeking for a fair share of the national cake has periodically led a team of media personnel to Ahomahomasu to ascertain a stalled market facility which is having a negative impact on most activities of farmers and traders.
Below is the press release by the group:
WE ASK FOR POLICE PROTECTION FOR OUR MEMBER, NANA OWIREDU AGYARKO MINTAH II, ANKOBEAHENE OF BEGORO AND OKYEMAN BENKUM DIVISION – FANPA
We are by this letter, inviting the Ghana Police Service to intervene immediately to ensure the safety and personal security of Nana Owiredu Agyarko Mintah II, the Ankobeahene of Begoro and Benkum Division of Okyeman.
Our Association, Fanteakwa North Positive Action Group, assigned Nana Owiredu to speak to the press on matters of development in Fanteakwa North, especially on the dilapidated streets in Begoro township.
After the media encounter, which was widely broadcast by many media outlets, our spokesperson received information about plots to harm his person and endanger his personal security. Nana has since been living in fear because of the numerous threats.
Our organization is a nonpartisan group, duly registered with the Registrar General’s Department, among other roles, to engage duty bearers to ensure that the rights of citizens of Fanteakwa to development are fully respected.
The engagement group is mainly made up of natives and associates of the Fanteakwa North District. The members of the group are based both in Ghana and abroad.
As stated above, the primary objective of the Association is to see to it that the District gets its fair share of the national cake and the District, in turn, shares projects fairly and equitably to the various communities that constitute the District.
It is our intention to assist duty bearers in the District to carry out their mandate as expected of them and to alert them where they go contrary to their mandates. As an association that believes in the rights-based approach to development, we are equally duty-bound to be mindful of our obligations as citizens and to strive to abide by the laws of the land.
Nana Owiredu was delegated by our Association to speak on its behalf and he did so within the armpit of the law. We, therefore, appeal to your high office and its allied security agencies to come to the rescue of Nana Owiredu, who has been virtually besieged, to ensure his personal security and the security of our members.
We hope our call will be treated with all the seriousness it deserves.
Sincerely yours,
Frederick Safo Asare
