The Upper Manya Krobo District Director of the Ghana Health Services, Mrs Esther Dua Oyinka has expressed worry over high vaccine hesitancy in the district.
According to the health Director, many residents are reluctant to be vaccinated due to false information and misconceptions about the Covid-19 vaccine.
The District Director said out of the fifty thousand, one hundred and four (50,104) targeted population expected to be vaccinated by the end of this year, only 282 have so far been fully immunized.
Meanwhile, One thousand, one hundred and two (1,102) people have taken the first jab bringing the difference between the first and the second dose takers to 820.
However, those who took the first jab are even not willing to take the second jab due to myths of untimely death, infertility, impotency and barrenness being attributed to the intake of the vaccine
Upper Manya Krobo District is a rural area where most of the populace are farmers with a high illiteracy rate.
Mrs Oyinka appealed to the people to “accept the fact that Covid-19 is with us and have to protect ourselves against it. She said her outfit is doing everything possible to change the negative mindset of the people on the immunization through community engagement”.
She urged residents to disregard fake news and misconceptions about Covid-19 vaccines and make themselves available to be vaccinated.
