Ghana Civil Aviation Authority celebrates the 75th International Civil Aviation Day today, Tuesday,7th December 2021.
The theme for International Civil Aviation Day 2021 is “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development.”
The purpose of this day is to highlight the importance of the International Civil Aviation Organization. The day is observed to commemorate and generate worldwide consciousness about the contribution of international civil aviation to socio-economic development.
Ghana has been officially recognized as the 79th member of the International Civil Aviation Organization Authority (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) platform after joining on October 13, 2021.
The PKD is a central repository that makes the exchanging of information required to authenticate e-passports possible between states.
In 1996, the United Nations General Assembly gave a nod to the official observance of International Civil Aviation Day on 7 December. On the 50thanniversary of the Convention of the International Civil Aviation, ICAO celebrated the first Civil Aviation Day.
By the Ghana Civil Aviation Act, 2004 Act 678, The GCAA through the Economic Regulation & Business Development Department (ERBD) is responsible for the licensing of air transport and economic regulation of the aviation industry in Ghana.
The Department also ensures the industry’s compliance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 9 on Facilitation as well as Bilateral/Multilateral Air Service Agreements to which Ghana is a signatory.
