The head of communications of Food and Drugs Authority, Mrs Rhoda Appiah has cautioned Ghanaians particularly consumers of canned food, frozen foods, and others to check the expiring date on the products on market before, during, and after Christmas and new year season.
According to her, some businesses and individuals will take advantage of the impending Christmas festival to sell expired products which in the end will lead consumers into a harmful situation.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM “Efa Wo Ho” morning show, Mrs Appiah stated that every time festive season approaches, the country’s markets are flooded with expiring items including soft drinks, biscuits, cakes, canned tomatoes, frozen meat and among others with low prices to attract consumers.
However, we are putting some measures in place to cross-check expired products on the market and anyone caught will be punished.
She then advised businesses and individuals who sell to be careful of the food they sold to consumers since the food and drugs authority is collaborating with police agencies to deal with those releasing contaminated foods to vends to others.
