Human Rights Lawyer and lawmaker for Madina, Francis Xavier-Sosu has commended Ghana for dealing with the issue of LGBTQ1+ holistically, thereby sampling views from the public.
According to him, it is a step in the right direction to ensure everyone contributes his/her idea into the discussion as in connection with a bill presented to Parliament.
In an interview with Kwabena Nyarko Abronoma on Bryt FM news on Friday as part of International Human Rights Day, Lawyer Xavier-Sosu insisted sampling the views of the public will help the country arrive with a solution that would not infringe on the rights of others in connection with their action that is frown on in Ghana due to our cultural and religious values and customs.
The lawyer was, however, not happy with the rate of streets, hawking, and child labour on our streets that goes against the human right of victims and blamed the government and other stakeholders for their failure to deal with the issue.
“Our government officials, MPs, CSOs, the police, and other stakeholders every day see children hawking on our streets but ask yourself what is been done to help them. All these infringe on their rights to have basic needs in life” the Madina MP stressed.
Asked whether Ghanaians are currently enjoying human rights Democratic governance, Lawyer Xavier-Sosu spoke against some sorts of intimidation melted on those who try to criticize some actions of the public.
The United Nations Organisation in 1948 adopted the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR) document which was to protect the rights of everyone despite one’s religion, culture, sex, age, political affiliation, and many others.
The theme for the 2021 celebration is “EQUALITY- Reducing inequalities, Advancing Human Rights”.
