The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charles Wesley Academy in Koforidua Dr. Charles Annor Frimpong proposed to government and education policymakers to consider the introduction of entrepreneurial, talent development, and vocational training into the basic education system.
He said this would be a great step to solving the high unemployment situation in Ghana as students will grow up to have requisite vocational skills, talent development, and entrepreneurial mindset.
According to him, “as a country, we need to take a step back and develop a holistic education framework that will capture the talents and potentials of the individual children”.
He said education should not necessarily depend on certificates but more importantly talents and skill training where students excel most so that students who are not academically oriented can have good training in other professional disciplines.
He added that “it is obvious that government payroll is indeed chocked, so the curriculum should be diversifying towards entrepreneurial development to secure the future of the children”
He said education should be geared towards entrepreneurs, people who can set up their businesses and not necessarily wait on the government for employment.
He made this remark during a graduation ceremony held at the forecourt of the school at Koforidua Oyoko in the Eastern Region.
Dr. Annor Frimpong said, the government should not intend to compete with private schools but rather complement by enhancing and supporting the private schools since the existence of private schools eases the burden and the workload on the government in terms of allocating resources to take care of these children.
The special guest of honor, Akosua Ago Aboagye a broadcast Journalist with Despite Media group emphasized the need for a collective effort by stakeholders -parents, teachers, opinion leaders, and traditional leaders for the upbringing of the children.
She said, “training a child to be God-fearing and respectful is the only tool that will secure a better future of the children and help them to be responsible in society”.
She, therefore, advised all stakeholders responsible for the upbringing of children in our society to include more disciplinary measures that will consistently guide the child in order not to depart from it as they grow up.
Akosua Ago Aboagye also advised parents to desist from the acquisition of wealth and materialism for themselves at the expense of their children’s education.
The award-winning broadcaster lamented increasing negligence and irresponsible parenting in Ghana ” the negligent of parents if not properly addressed will churn out children who are indiscipline, lazy, nuisance and threat to the security of the nation”.
