A team from Aarhus Vand in the municipality of Aarhus, Denmark, has visited Ghana to conduct hands-on training with staff at the Tema Central district office of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
The training focused on how to use high-end technologies and management approaches to detect leakages and register reported cases of burst pipelines to reduce overall water loss in the system.
The collaboration between GWCL and Aarhus Vand is part of the ongoing strategic sector cooperation between Aarhus municipality and Tema.
The GWCL hopes to replicate lessons learned from Tema throughout Ghana to ensure quality service from the water distribution body.
GWCL has over the years suffered from water loss due to burst pipelines that are normally unattended for long periods due to several reasons being challenges of the company.
Management of the GWCL is, however, optimistic the training will go a long way to reduce such cases to prevent water from flowing away.
