Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Fire Commander Joseph Amihere has revealed that in 2020, the fire service recorded increased fire accidents with a high fatality rate unlike this year, 2021.
According to him, statistics indicate that more than 50% of outbreaks are domestic-related.
Speaking with the media, he said the harmattan has set in with much heat and cautioned all and sundry to be wary because a percentage of 98% of fire outbreaks are caused by human activities.
He warned the public to be careful with cylinder leakages while farmers were also advised to avoid going to farm with open fire.
Mr. Amihere added that “we shouldn’t overload our multi-socket to avoid fire outbreaks; unplugging pressing iron before attending to phone calls would prevent outbreaks of fire. Farmers who normally go to the farm at dawn to clad themselves in multi-colored attires instead of being in black attire to avoid being hit by passing vehicles”.
He assured his outfit will monitor the various markets at night to make sure everything is in order and pledged to move from house to house to educate people on fire outbreaks and how to avoid it in especially in the yuletide season.
