The Municipal Chief Executive for West Akyem in the Eastern Region, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu has assured the people of Asamankese that they should not fear because security personnel are in charge and will ensure that all residents will leave in peace before, during, and after Christmas.
He said the Municipal Security Council will not tolerate any group which wants to cause mayhem over chieftaincy.
On Monday,20th December morning in Asamankese chief Palace at 0700 hours Policemen on duty at the chief’s palace called to inform District Commander that a group of men have forced open the main gate to the palace amidst the firing of guns.
Police reinforcement led by the District Commander responded to the scene and found a lot of crowd around the palace.
A group of men was also found in the palace, 38 men were rounded up and sent to Asamankese station and detained. A dead sheep, 52 AA, spent shells; one sidearm with 2 loaded magazines, 1 pump action gun was seized from them.
Nine people were injured and were rushed to Asamankese Gov’t hospital where they are receiving attention.
As a result of the tension, the arrested persons are being transferred to Regional Headquarters for further action.
Meanwhile, a statement issued and signed by Akyem Abuakwa state Secretary, D. M. Ofori Atta said Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin condemned the act and called on the police to ensure law and order.
The statement said the only legitimate Chief of Asamankese is Osabarima Adu Darko III so the purported installation of Barima Pobi Asomaning II is unlawful and uncustomary in Akyem Abuakwa state.
