The Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Aboagye DaCosta has explained further enhanced port guidelines in fighting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the enhanced Covid-19 Protocols in regards to vaccination requirements at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is not referred to as “Compulsory Vaccination” in Public Health.
“Travelling is by choice and if you decide to travel to Ghana or leave Ghana, you must meet all PORT Health requirements”.
“The KIA vaccine certificate requirements are part of the Enhanced Port Health guidelines can be further enhanced as necessary once there is a risk of a disease to human or animal health” he stated.
Dr. Aboagye DaCosta added, “In any way, the Public Health Act 2012, Act 851 on Examination and Vaccination at the point of entry, SECTION 26 says”.
According to him, a public health vaccinator may examine and vaccinate a person who arrives in the country but cannot produce satisfactory evidence of successful vaccination.
He again emphasized the section 26 did not compel Port Health Authorities to start this with an E.I. but having an E. I may be good and that the E. I can be done anytime pre or post-implementation depending on the circumstances.
“I think Health Authorities are spot on in their enhanced airport requirements/guidelines on vaccination requirements”.
“The people who do not want you to be vaccinated are themselves vaccinated because they are afraid to die or be hospitalized or to get a severe or critical covid 19 disease should they get the disease. Get vaccinated!” Dr. DaCosta insisted.
