The President of the Coffee Federation of Ghana met with the minister at The Ministry Of Food And Agriculture Ghana (MoFA) together with a delegation consisting of representatives from Africa and Madagascar Robusta Coffee Agency (ACRAM), International Trade Centre and Coffee Buyers Association to discuss ways in which we can collaborate to revamp the Coffee Industry in Ghana and beyond.
Coffee production presents a golden opportunity to provide Ghana with another cash crop.
Coffee is one of the largest commodities worldwide apart from oil and fortunately, Ghana happens to have suitable soil conditions for its production.
As an agriculturist passionate about Coffee production, the minister, Dr Kwaku Owusu Afriyie Akoto commended the Coffee Federation and its partners from ITC and ACRAM for this laudable initiative.
In addition, the group would like to partner with MoFA and invest in youth participation in the sector.
This investment is also expected to recruit about 5000,000 young people, train and nurture them to grow in the industry within a span of two years.
Nevertheless, the Federation face a constraint of land acquisition and have sought the assistance of some traditional leaders to facilitate the process.
Chiefs will lend out their lands for coffee production to young people in their respective communities. In so doing, they will make some gains from the produce in the Land Mark System.
Also, the team appealed to the ministry to enable them to champion the National Coffee Policy.
This policy provides direction for the cultivation and development of coffee in the country.
Furthermore, the team sought the ministry’s help to expand and create more coffee linkages for coffee marketing in Ghana.
