The Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service has reported that a total of 831 pedestrians were knocked down and died from January to December 2021.
According to the MTTD, 2,099 others sustained minor and serious injuries as some are disabled after they were discharged from the hospital.
Greater Accra Region Recorded the highest knockdowns with 882 persons who were injured and 229 others died while in the Ashanti region, 172 people died after they were knocked down and 457 others were injured.
In the Eastern Region, the number of persons who died through vehicular and motorcycle knockdown was 103 and 174 others sustained injuries, whilst in the Central Region, 82 pedestrians were knocked down and died later with 137 others sustaining injuries.
Fortunately for North East Region, no pedestrian was killed through knockdown but two people were injured but in Tema Police Region,61 people died through knockdown, 34 in Volta, 40 in Western, 10 in Northern, 8 in upper west,16 in upper East,5 in Bono, 35 in Bono East,11 in Ahafo, three each for Oti and Savannah Region.
Moreover, Western North Region Recorded 19 deaths of Pedestrians knockdown and 45 others were injured.
