Former manager of Ghanaian top gospel singer Joyce Blessing, Akwasi Ernest on live radio has divulged the immediate needs of Ghanaian artists when they get the chance to invade the Western lands for events/shows.
Speaking on Accra based Hitz103.9Fm on the morning of Wednesday, January 19 2022, the artist manager and producer has emphasized the fact that 50 artists are flown to the United Kingdom on every edition of Ghana Music Awards-UK.
According to him, by keenly observing the body language of these Ghanaian musicians, he revealed that the first thing they ask for is hotel and narcotics.
To be specific, Kwasi Ernest had noted that these musicians ask for weed, alcohol and hotel as their primary needs.
He revealed “We do Ghana Music Awards UK every year. We take about 50 artists to UK. I look at their body language of the artistes. The first thing the artist is thinking about is hotel, weed and alcohol,” he said.
His utterances served as a contribution to the topic “Why is Ghana Music not crossing borders? What are we doing wrong?” which was on the table of discussion during the flagship “DaybreakHitz” entertainment show with Andy Dosty as the host.
Kwesi Ernest who on the morning seemed to be blaming the Ghanaian music performers for their woes added that musicians at this side have failed to follow up to where their music is being patronized to boost their marketing in such regions around the world.
He said “One of the reasons our music is not crossing borders is because music is marketing. How many Ghanaian artists have you seen travel to countries where their music is doing well to see how their music industry works?”.
He furthered his argument by saying, “the musicians themselves have contributed largely to the problem of investment. You call an artiste and he begins to give you excuses. Why won’t you be tired?”.
Kwasi Ernest is the Chief Executive Officer for Media Excel and the manager of Ghanaian police officer cum musician DSP Kofi Sarpong.
