Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has launched the Pre-Engineering programme for secondary school graduates with non-science backgrounds.
The Pre-Engineering programme is a one-year detailed course designed to prepare and train secondary school graduates with non-science backgrounds for enrollment into the Bachelor of Science in Engineering course at the university.
According to the minister, the Pre-Engineering programme is a game-changer that will open doors to many non-science secondary school graduates, especially Visual Arts graduates who have the desire and possess the ability and creative mind to be trained as the innovative and creative engineers to drive Industrialization in our dear country.
He stressed that the programme is in accordance with the Education Strategic Plan 2018-2030 which targets a 60% enrollment of students in tertiary education enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
“I look forward to welcoming the first batch of students for this programme at University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) and Pentecost University, in February this year” he added.
