The coming into being of the novel COVID-19 virus pandemic with its emerging more deadly variants have made the world found wanting as every Nation is looking for medical solutions to protect its citizenry and strengthen its health delivery systems.
But Africa especially Ghana despite being blessed with uncountable herbs, food and water which until the introduction of chemicals or orthodox medicines by the Europeans were our potent source of healing and took care of our forefathers to live for hundred years and over are still looking up to the Western World for vaccines to protect her citizens.
It is in this direction that two non-governmental organizations that promote organic and natural systems namely the Center for Indigenous Knowledge and Organizational Development (CIKOD) and Abrono Organic Farming Project (ABOFAP) are mobilizing Ghanaian Herbalists to combine their forces in order to find cures to various deadly diseases.
Speaking during the launching of “Forikrom Traditional Healers Network” in Techiman municipality of Bono East region; a program which brought together various Herbalists, Officials from Ghana Health Services as well as the Food and Drugs Authority, Mr Bernard Guri, Executive Director of CIKOD noted that it was their aim to mobilize, train and support traditional healers in Ghana to combine their forces to produce internationally accepted herbal medicines.
For his part, Mr Kyeremeh Yeboah Richard a Senior Regulatory Officer at FDA Office in charge of Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions commended the “Forikrom Traditional Healers Network” for the good initiative and pledged his outfit will support them in areas of research, licensing and regulation of their herbal products and services.
Finally, Nana Kwaw Adams, Twafo Hene of Forikrom who happens to be the CEO of ABOFAP and Patron of the Association on behalf of the members thanked the Stakeholders and urged all Herbalists across the country to come on board in order to fight a common goal which is curing diseases through our herbal ways.
