The Ghana Armed Forces is set to establish a permanent military base at Maame Krobo in Afram Plains South District in Eastern Region as part of an intervention to address rising security threats particularly armed robbery and invasion of nomadic Fulani herdsmen.
The General Officer Commanding the Southern Sector Brigadier General Michael Amoah and Director Planning and Research Development Brigadier General Gyane Adoh Richard on Monday stormed the fifty (50) acre land earmarked for the base for inspection.
The Eastern Regional minister Seth Kwame Acheampong who led the officers to inspect the site also showed them a temporary accommodation at Kwanin for the immediate habitation of the detachment.
The Regional Minister said the establishment of the military base has become necessary due to security challenges facing the Afram Plains Area.
He was hopeful that the occasional conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and crop farmers will be a thing of the past with the presence of the military.
The District Chief Executive for Afram plains South Evans Kyei Ntiri was grateful to the various traditional leaders especially the Okwahumanhene Dasebre Akuamoah Agyapong for their support to ensure the establishment of the military base comes into fruition.
