The Chief Executive for West Akyem Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region, Honourable Seth Oduro Boadu has said the Assembly, for the past six years, has not been able to pay Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for some staff.
According to him, the GH¢26,000.00 debt owe is due to the financial challenge and 67 staff receive their salary from the Assembly’s Internal Generated Fund.
To generate enough money for debt settlement, Honourable Seth Oduro Boadu said the Assembly is targeting GH¢2million Internal Generated Fund in 2022 and will continue to provide social amenities as well.
According to him, the Assembly’s share of the common fund is normally used to settle debt, therefore, people in the Municipality should pay their taxes to enable the Assembly to Initiate policies and programs for all communities in the area.
He said revenue collectors will be given the needed resources and training to increase mobilization and charged taxpayers to be truthful in payment and pay on time, adding, all levies are tabled, discussed, and approved by Assembly members but not the chief executive and civil servants at the Assembly.
Mr. Oduro Boadu said the central Government also needs money to build the nation; therefore, Ghanaians should welcome the introduction of the Electronic levy to enable the NPP’s Administration to fulfill its promises.
On the issue of the election of Chief Executives for Assemblies, Mr. Oduro Boadu stressed the need for all Ghanaians to push for a referendum to amend the local government acts so that Chief Executives can be elected like Members of Parliament to give them peaceful mind to work for the people.
