A called has been made to Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) in the Oti region to play the role of communicators for the New Patriotic Party and propagate government policies, especially the Electronic Communication Levy (E-levy) to dispel the propaganda of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who has set their sights against it.
Addressing a TESCON conference at Dambai College of Education on the theme, Breaking the eight: the role of TESCON”, former Education Minister and National Chairman aspirant, Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi, observed that there is future for members of TESCON in the party and urged them to be active in the scheme of things like other TESCON members in the past who are now occupying national and ministerial positions today.
According to the Regional Minister, Josuah Makubu, TESCON like any youth in the party is free to support any aspirant of his or her choice in the upcoming internal elections to vote for qualified persons to lead NPP at the Constituency, Regional, and National level but admonished them against being used by anybody to do their dirty work against an opponent.
“We need to come out of these elections as a unified force to execute the 2024 general elections if we are to break the jinx” he added.
Felix Ade, Oti Regional Organizer aspirant, observed that it is about time TESCON is well placed in the party and given a role to play as well-educated members of the party instead of being only engaged during elections. He said they can effectively play the role of communicators in the communities they live in and can well articulate the policies and programs of government. “As far as l am concerned, TESCON is underutilized and when l am elected as the Regional Organizer, l will rope in membership of TESCON to educate and sell NPP to the people of the region, most of whom are align to NDC”
Oti region is dominated by NDC since the inception of the Fourth Republic and though the party is making inroads, there is much work to be done. The only parliamentary seat, Krachi East that NPP won in 2016 from NDC was recaptured in the last election and the party has a lot to do if it wants to make an impact in the region.
