Ben Ephson, a pollster, has predicted that Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the incumbent Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, will lose in the governing party’s upcoming regional executive elections.
Chairman Wontumi’s reelection bid, according to Ben Ephson, has been jeopardized by a number of developments within the NPP in the Ashanti Region.
The NPP’s expulsion from a rented facility in the region, Mr Ephosn claimed, exposed the party to public mockery, particularly among members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I believe Wontumi will lose,” remarked the Dispatch’s Managing Editor. Things were not going well within the party after the first term. We’re working on it because I’m writing my seventh book on elections, and part of it is about the NPP’s presidential campaign.
“The party being kicked out of the hired space was the final straw; they were humiliated.” The NDC in the Ashanti region has teased them, saying that Wontumi claims to have millions of cedis but you haven’t been able to create anything. If Wontumi wins, I’ll be quite astonished.”
Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi expressed confidence in being re-elected by the party’s delegates.
He boasted about his achievements as regional chair for the party, stating he managed to boost the NPP’s performance in the region, speaking to the press following his vetting in Kumasi on Thursday, May 19.
He promised the party that effective campaign equipment will be deployed ahead of the national elections in 2024 to ensure the NPP’s survival.
“From 1992 to 2016, elections have been different or every eight years, therefore in 2016, nearly 2.2 million people voted in the Ashanti region,” he stated.
“By God’s help, we have increased the votes in the Ashanti region since I became chairman.” We have a different plan to break the eight.”
