The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Davis Opoku Ansah has kicked against Eastern Regional Minister’s Residency as the venue for the Regional executive’s election of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP.
The Eastern Regional Elections are scheduled to come off on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
However, the MP is strongly campaigning for Jeff Konadu and is raising objections to the proposal to hold the election at the Residency. He said a neutral ground is needed.
The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency Davis Opoku Ansah has meanwhile tested his faith in God by sowing a seed of offering of Ghc1000 cash into the candidature of Jeffery Konadu Addo to win the Eastern Regional Chairmanship race.
The MP who has declared support for the Jeff Konadu Addo who has served four years as Regional Secretary described him as the finest gentleman who is diligent, affable, hardworking, and committed to his work.
The MP popularly known as OPK believes Jeff is a competent leader who can help the party in the Eastern region ‘break the eight’s should he become the Regional chairman.
“This Sunday, I requested special prayers for Jeff Konadu Addo! God should protect him now and until he becomes the next Eastern Regional Chairman
Nothing will stop us! We are determined to elect the best for our region. We pray against indecisive leadership in Eastern Region. You select yourself to be constituency chairman, and in less than two weeks, you want to be Regional Chairman”. Hon. Davis Opoku Ansah said.
The MP took the decision and made the pronouncement when he led the newly elected Mpraeso constituency executives of the party to a thanksgiving service at Emmanuel Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Asakraka in Kwahu.
The Thanksgiving service was joined by aspirants who also lost the election as well as some members and supporters of the party.
29 file to contest NPP regional executive positions
A total of twenty-nine (29) persons filed their nomination to contest the Eastern regional Executive positions of the ruling New Patriotic Party by the close of nomination on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
The aspirants were vetted on Wednesday and Thursday whiles balloting were done ahead of the election.
Two persons – Jeffrey Konadu Addo, incumbent Regional Secretary, and Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang, who was recently re-elected for the fourth time as New Juaben North Constituency Chairman, are battling it out for the Regional Chairmanship position.
Francis Obeng and Richard Koranteng Twum also filed for the 1st Vice Chairmanship position.
Six persons Ebenezer Lawrence Ayisi, Michael Oteng Adu, Frank Appiah, Nana Oteng Akuffo Akoto, Hormenu Kofi Walter, and Paul Amaning filed to contest the Regional Second Vice Chairman position.
The Regional Secretary position is being contested by Anthony Osei Adjei, the Eastern Regional Director of the National Communication Authority (NCA), and Buckman Akuffo, a Lecturer at Koforidua Technical University.
Nana Sefa Edmund Papin (incumbent), Felix Osafo Marfo, and Robert Osei Danso Ofori Attah also filed to contest the Assistant Secretary position.
The incumbent Regional treasurer Kumi Larbi Benjamin is being challenged by Opoku Peterson Dacosta.
The Regional Organizer position saw three persons -Jerry Osei Opoku, the incumbent Youth Organizer, Opoku Acheampong George, and Ahmed Yusif Yonah file to contest.
The incumbent Regional Women’s Organizer Fati Vondolie is being challenged by Mercy Amo Darkoh.
The regional youth organizer position is keenly being contested by six aspirants -Adamu Musah Raha, Wuttoh Agoku Asante Isaac, Alfred Believe Awatsi, Aaron Donkor, Nana Afari Kwagyire Aggrey, and Baffuor Agyemang Sarkodie
Hussein Mohammed Fadilu is contesting the Regional Nasara Coordinator position unopposed.
6 DISQUALIFIED FROM NPP RACE IN EASTERN REGION
Six out of twenty-nine (29) aspirants who filed to contest the Eastern Regional Executives election of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, have been disqualified after vetting.
According to the secretary to the 12-member Vetting Committee, Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah, Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, the six disqualified persons could not meet the criteria for the contest however a report has been sent to the nation for the final decision on their fate.
“We have concluded the balloting exercise today and some have been cleared to stand and they know their positions and 6 others couldn’t make it but as it stands we need to submit a report to the national office and make official clearance before we can publish it especially when they have right to appeal so in due time we will make the names known”
He explained that “even though the party has given the committee 27th to 29th to agree on a date to conduct the regional elections, the party and the committee, therefore, advise all disqualified aspirants to as a matter of urgency file their appeals and must be cleared before 25th of May, 2022”.
