The leadership of Okyeman Youth For Development who were part of the Concerned Citizens of Okyeman, a group that staged a massive demonstration against John Dramani Mahama in 2020 over the “Akyem Sakawa Boys” comment he shared is fighting Gabby Okyere Darko, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, for using and dumping them.
In a Facebook post on Friday, May, 27, 2022 the group said “the Asamankese Demonstration held in 2020 was an assignment given to us by Gabby Okyere Darko, Honestly, after the demonstration, he has refused to meet us, even his aides that he referred us to are not willing to let us meet Gabby again. It is over 2 years, they used us and dumped us”
The statement urged NPP delegates to that “please delegates in the Eastern Region don’t listen to Gabby Okyere Darko because after the elections you will regret like how the leaders who led the Asamankese Demonstration have regretted. Vote on competency and for the person, you wholeheartedly trust in, don’t give lies a chance because Okyeman Youth has regretted listening to the call from Gabby and co to organize that demonstration, not even one slot for Youth employment has been given to the over 1000 youth that held the Asamankese Demonstration against John Mahama in 2020. We have regretted listening to them organize that demonstration”
Kwadwo Agyemang Boateng, immediate past New Juaben North Constituency Chairman of the NPP is rather contesting the incumbent Regional Secretary Jeffrey Konadu for the Regional Chairmanship position.
The contest has sharply divided the party as the presidency and some bigwigs of the party are unfairly meddling in the contest and manipulating the process in favor of Mr. Boateng, however, the campaign of Jeff Konadu is receiving a massive endorsement from members of Parliament and many delegates who believe the decision of Mr. Boateng to contest is an afterthought and hidden agenda having been elected Constituency chairman three weeks ago.
Gabby Okyere Darko is part of the Presidency group manipulating the electoral processes for Kwadwo Agyemang Boateng to become Regional Chairman.
Meanwhile, the Okyeman Youth for Development has declared support for Jeff Konadu.
