Following two years of virtual meetings, the just-ended African Development Bank Group’s 2022 Annual Meetings was the first return to in-person sessions.
The Bank’s President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, led the meetings which had in attendance heads of state, government leaders, bank governors and business executives from across the continent.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo used his moment on the main stage of the AfDB meetings to urge fellow African governments to make efforts at ending foreign illicit financial transactions and tax indulgence by multinationals.
Foreign illicit financial transactions, according to the President, have been depriving the continent of much-needed tax revenue – accounting for more than half of reported illicit financial flows globally.
Meanwhile, in a separate conversation on the sidelines of the AfDB meetings, our CEO, Yofi Grant, spoke of the need for government leaders on the continent to accelerate and facilitate the AfCFTA.
He also underscored the importance of mobilizing investment to fuel Africa’s industrialization drive.
